The world is HUGE! One can take some pictures and buy a few things to remember your time in a certain place, or we can put down the camera and the wallet and savor the scents and the flavours of our adventure.

I myself collect experiences as well as memories of new found friends. I find the world becomes a bit smaller and foreign shores a little less distant.

For our meal, we will experience, Sumac, Za’atar, and Cardamom. Three of the many spices I’ve discovered in the Mahane Yehuda Market (the Shuk), on a recent visit to Jerusalem. Sumac is a deep red berry, which is dried and ground into a coarse powder. The spice was long used in Europe to add tartness to many dishes until the Romans introduced lemons to the area. Za’atar, depending on the region, is generally made with ground dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, or some combination thereof, mixed with toasted sesame seeds, and salt. Cardamom is a spice made from the seed pods of various plants in the ginger family. Cardamom has a strong, pungent flavor and aroma, with hints of lemon, mint, and smoke.

Orange & Cardamom Crème Brûlée

Served with Drunken Strawberries and Mint

A study of contrast and balance in every bite: The cardamom mixed with a hint of orange zest, and the rich, impossible creamy custard plays off the maple syrup notes in the crunchy caramelized sugar.

Add the strawberries marinated in dark rum with the ribbons of mint for a pop of freshness and its the perfect finish to our meal!

The evening was set off with a sense of adventure that, to my great delight, took me from my usual Thursday night routine. The prospect of visiting the home of someone I had never met, passionate about food, cooking and dining with people I had never met (aside from the person who suggested I come) was, irresistible. My excitement almost completely negated my grapple with the dreaded Toronto rush hour on one of the not-so-gracefully-ageing streetcars. And….I was not disappointed.

The food was exquisite in its creativity. The textures, flavours and temperatures all played flawlessly into an incredible experience. In both presentation, and experience, I feel that Ros’ passion and excitement for the food was expressed both through the tales he would set the stage with about each dish before we tucked in (I have a special affection for a good story teller) and through the many delights experienced by my palate.

Perhaps equal to the the culinary experience, was the company. While all quite different in many ways, each shared a passion for good food and dare I say good living. The conversations between courses were lively, stimulating and really made for an exquisite evening. I highly recommend signing up for Ros’ next meal.

The food was amazing and magnificently cooked, one of the best Hummus I´ve ever tried! Besides, the whole experience it´s really interesting and enriching since you have the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds outside of your daily environment. Totally recommended!

First of all, I met some great people and we had open conversations about different thong topics, interesting and educational. Our Chef Ros, explained the food and some history. He had us interact with each other by providing some information about ourselves.

When we sat down at the table to eat, the food was awesome. I would definitely do this again. Even my wife, who wasn’t going to come, loved it. The only downside, it was a Sunday night.

The concept and delivery were exactly as I imagined a perfect dinner outing to be on a Sunday night. Relaxed, inviting, delicious, informative. Ros has got something cooking with this website.
